Stages in Houston
One of my favorite ways to spend a weekend evening in the city is catching a play at Stages. Located just down the street from Buffalo Bayou Park, it’s near various restaurants and bars, plus a short drive from downtown.
Over the years, I’ve attended several of their productions, including Othello: The Remix, Switzerland, and Thunder Knocking on the Door. While every show may not quite reach the polished scale of larger venues like Alley Theatre, the experience at Stages remains consistently enjoyable and refreshing in its own right.
What makes Stages stand out is its relaxed, inviting atmosphere. As a smaller venue, the spaces create a distinct sense of closeness. The line between the audience and the stage blurs, making you feel directly connected to the performance unfolding right in front of you.
Whether you are wrapping up an afternoon along Buffalo Bayou or simply looking for an approachable cultural outing, a show at Stages is always a great time and well worth a visit.
