Having thoroughly enjoyed BCN over the years, MAD in River Oaks was a spot I had been looking forward to trying for quite some time. Unfortunately, there was simply no comparison. While the food itself was good, the service was a major letdown and left a lot to be desired. The staff wasn’t attentive, seemed to be a bit dismissive, and was not up to par with my expectations. It’s not an experience I would personally recommend.

I visited during Houston Restaurant Weeks and tried a few items, including the mejillones (steamed mussels in a leek and white wine sauce) for an appetizer, followed by the Bravas Tomás. Their elevated spin on classic Spanish patatas bravas comes with crispy potatoes, garlic aioli, and smoked chili oil, topped with soft eggs, fresh avocado, and arugula.

Here are a few photos from my visit there.
