Theodore Rex in Houston
I had a chance to visit Theodore Rex a couple of weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed their food, hospitality, the intimacy of the restaurant, and its convenient location. It’s right outside of Downtown Houston. I made it to the restaurant right at their 5 p.m. opening, and the view of the skyline was wonderful.
For dinner, I started with their cold ratatouille with red miso. I enjoyed it. Next was their platter of tuna sashimi with pickled green coriander, lime, fish liqueur, and avocado. This was my favorite dish. I also ordered the fried Gulf white shrimp with mousseline and shiso. They had good flavor, but it was my least favorite dish of the evening.
For the main dish, I had their poached Gulf red snapper with seaweed and vegetable allumettes. As a side, I had their boiled heirloom potatoes with cultured butter. The fish had an incredible flavor. To finish things off, I had their red Jell-O with vanilla ice cream as dessert. It was also worth trying.
I was pleased with my experience and would definitely go back. I highly recommend going during sunset to have an amazing view.
