Leanna Holmes, often referred to as Mama Sweet, was one of my maternal great grandmothers. She was born on December 6, 1901 and was the mother of my grandmother, Queen Holmes Heath. She passed away on November 22, 1980. Here’s information about her from her obituary.

"Peace I leave with you, My Peace I give unto you." John 14:27. "Let not your heart be troubled." John 14:1

Sister Leanna Holmes, our "Mama Sweet" is not dead, she lives on, and will live on in the hearts and lives of every person who has known her. So, "weep not, she is not dead, she's only resting in the bosom of Jesus." Sister Leanna Holmes of 2000 Peach Street, Apartment 23, departed this life to enter her new and everlasting life on the Twenty-Second of November, 1980.

Sister Leanna was born in 1901 and was reared in Grayson, Louisiana to the union of Mr. Montgomery Johnson and Mrs. Elizabeth Johnston Johnson. She was converted and baptized at an early age at Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Grayson, Louisiana.

She was married to Mr. Willie Holmes. To this union, two lovely daughters were born.

In 1943, she moved to Monroe, Louisiana and united with St. Mary's Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend C. H. Reed and remained until her passing.

She leaves to mourn: one daughter, Mrs. Queen Elizabeth Heath, Houston, Texas; one son-in-law, Attorney Millard C. Heath of Houston, Texas; one brother, Mr. Wilbert Johnson, Grayson, Louisiana; 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and a host of loving and kind relatives and friends.
